Mission Data is heading to Austin’s annual launching pad for innovation

As another SXSW Interactive quickly approaches, Mission Data’s team has curated a collection of the panels, talks, and experiences that are piquing our interest this year. With themes focused on artificial intelligence, mixed reality, Internet of Things, blockchain, food, cannabis, and workforce—just to name a few—this year’s tech mecca looks to be another educational and invigorating conference.

Immersion at Scale: AR/MR Will Change Everything

This panel will discuss the latest developments in augmented reality and mixed reality as the technology experiences exponential growth, with a specific focus on retail. How will brands and advertising companies use immersive wearables such as the HoloLens and Magic Leap, and how will that impact consumers?

Retail Revolution: Brick-and-Mortar Bounces Back

Retail is hungry for a recovery story, and the fact that digitally native brands are opening physical stores is one exciting aspect of the new retail climate. We expect this panel will focus on retail as an experience.

The Developer, The Enterprise, and Open Ecosystems

What role does the enterprise play in enabling software developers to build a connected world? This session will tell Bosch North America’s story of how it turned a 130-year-old technology company into an IoT company with an open ecosystem.

Revolutionizing Food Safety With Blockchain Tech

For several years now, blockchain has been a hot topic at SXSW, but the focus has mainly been on cryptocurrency. Meanwhile, this new digital infrastructure brings a world of possibilities and transparency across industries. One use case that is intriguing, particularly to Mission Data’s OpSense product team, is blockchain for food safety. This panel will look at the ways that blockchain is expected to bring end-to-end transparency to the global food chain.

Bose AR Experience

Bose will be demoing its audio augmented reality glasses, Bose Frames. The stylish sunglasses feature built-in Bose speakers that provide an immersive experience by using simple gestures such as tapping and positioning. Bose’s audio-first approach to AR sounds compelling, and we’re especially excited for hands-free, surround sound applications.

Sony’s WOW Studio

Last year, we were very impressed with Sony’s pop-up featuring AR air hockey, interactive games, and personal projection mapping, among other activations. This year’s Sony experience looks to be just as awe-inspiring, with plans for a dark cave where visitors can play music using sound and haptic technology.

IP and the Internet of Things

Speakers from IBM and the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office will dive into the unique challenges regarding intellectual property rights and the IoT. Mission Data’s OpSense team recently co-hosted a meetup on this very topic, so we will be interested to hear what the latest guidance is from government and industry leaders.
