Profile & Challenge

OPEXUS designs, develops and delivers government process management software to help public sector professionals work more efficiently. By automating complex administrative tasks, OPEXUS enables government agencies to focus on making a lasting impact on society rather than being bogged down by inefficient systems. Their suite of digital solutions — including FOIAXpress and ATIPXpress — streamlines processes like Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, audits, investigations and workforce management. With a strong emphasis on security and compliance, including FedRAMP certification, OPEXUS ensures that agencies can confidently modernize their operations while meeting strict regulatory requirements.

Government agencies face significant challenges when handling public information requests, audits and other administrative workflows. Many of these tasks involve manual processing, including redacting sensitive information from documents, audio and video files — an approach that is both time-consuming and prone to human error. To enhance efficiency and accuracy, OPEXUS sought to integrate AI-powered tools that could automate these processes while ensuring compliance with strict government standards.

Additionally, legacy code and scalability issues presented obstacles in modernizing their systems. To continue delivering secure, high-performance solutions to government clients, OPEXUS needed a technology partner capable of optimizing their AI capabilities and upgrading their platform infrastructure.

SOLUTION & OUTCOME

GAP played a crucial role in modernizing OPEXUS's government process management software by integrating AI-powered automation, enhancing system scalability and improving the overall user experience. With a focus on streamlining workflows and reducing manual effort, GAP utilized artificial intelligence, natural language processing (NLP) and cloud-based solutions to help OPEXUS provide more efficient and compliant digital services for government agencies.

To enhance FOIAXpress, GAP implemented AI-powered document scanning and optical character recognition (OCR) to automate the identification and flagging of sensitive information. By using AWS Comprehend and core NLP tools, the system now analyzes and redacts confidential content in documents, significantly reducing human error and improving efficiency. Additionally, GAP partnered with Veritone to integrate AI-driven redaction for audio and video files, allowing government agencies to process public information requests more quickly while maintaining strict compliance standards.

Beyond AI enhancements, GAP modernized OPEXUS's system architecture by migrating it from legacy code to .NET 8, establishing a scalable microservices structure that enables faster and more reliable deployments. This upgrade not only improved system performance but also ensured that OPEXUS’s applications remain adaptable to evolving government requirements.

In addition to performance improvements, GAP ensured that OPEXUS's platforms fully comply with Section 508 accessibility standards, making them more inclusive for users with disabilities. Usability was also a key focus, with GAP delivering a series of UI/UX enhancements that improved the overall experience for government professionals relying on OPEXUS’s solutions.

As a result of this collaboration, OPEXUS now benefits from AI-powered automation that accelerates document processing and redaction, reducing the administrative burden on government agencies. The migration to .NET 8 has enhanced scalability, allowing for more efficient software deployments. Section 508 compliance ensures greater accessibility, while the improved user interface makes the platform more intuitive and user-friendly. By integrating AI and modernizing OPEXUS's infrastructure, GAP has helped government agencies work more efficiently, ensuring their time is spent on meaningful initiatives rather than being hindered by outdated systems.
